This scene is near the Madison Buffalo Jump, just out of Logan, Montana. The morning I went out to try and get some reference photos for this painting, it was -20 F, and definitely too cold to paint… even the camera battery ended up dying before I was able to get all the photos I had hoped to get! The Tobacco Root Mountains to the west, were so beautiful in that frosty early morning light! The frost covered grass and sage brush sparkled like diamonds as far as the eye could see! I used some artistic license again, and moved Hollow Top Mountain into the right of the painting, one can’t have the Tobacco Root Mountains without having Hollow Top!
