This is a scene near the Gallatin River, where Sage Creek flows into the river. The bull is patterned after the Fred Mercer bull, that was the Montana state record (typical classification ) from 1958 until 2016. Fred was a 1st cousin to my mother…and my wife and I had the privilege of being on Fred’s last elk hunt in 1997.
